GIS Introduces Patented Low Power Regenerative Electronics for FujiFilm Dimatix StarFire Printheads

By Published 28th January 2014News

Global Inkjet Systems (GIS), a leading developer of software, drivers, firmware and electronics for industrial inkjet printheads, today announced a new low power regenerative Head Interface Board (HIB) for the Fujifilm DimatixTM SG1024 StarFire™ printheads.

The new GIS HIB-FD-A4D supports the StarFire™ SG1024/S/M/L printheads and only requires a standard 24V power supply. Users of FujiFilm Dimatix™ printheads typically require expensive high voltage external power supplies to generate the high voltage fire pulses required. In contrast, GIS’ breakthrough technology generates the high voltage fire pulses and recovers energy from the printhead after each pulse, using only a low cost 24V power supply.

This patented regenerative design also delivers the full performance capabilities of the printhead. Each HIB can drive up to two StarFire™ printheads printing grey-scale (Versadrop™), multidrop and binary modes at full-speed. System builders are able to define independent waveforms for each printhead, specifying the number of pulses and the slew rates, amplitude and timings for each pulse.

The StarFire™ SG1024 printheads are proving popular in the market across a range of applications including textiles, ceramic tiles, labels and packaging. The new GIS low power regenerative technology, combined with the GIS Uniti™ platform, offers OEMs a unique advantage in delivering competitive, high performance StarFire™ systems.

The launch of the A4D technology is the culmination of almost 3 years’ work by GIS. “This is a great example of how we continue to invest in R&D so that we can deliver innovative technology to our customers” commented Nick Geddes, CEO of GIS.

This new regenerative design replaces GIS’ previous technology for driving StarFire™ SG1024 printheads. The HIB-FD-A4D has been shipping to early adopters for the last 6 months and is now available to the wider market.
